Winter Hours

Once the weather turns cold and the days get short, most of us want to be home in the evenings.  To allow our staff to get home safely in the winter weather and recognizing that many of our customers are wrapping up their shopping a little earlier in the day, this winter we are changing our hours slightly, from December 15 through February 29.  (Hey, this is a leap year!)  During these dates, we will close ONE HOUR EARLIER than normal.

This will not affect our evening classes – those that begin at 5:30pm may still run until 7 or 7:30.  Please make a note for your planned shopping visits that other than classes, the store will close at 6pm each day instead of 7pm.  We hope this still gives everyone ample time for those stop-by-after-work visits while still getting our employees out & on the way home a little earlier once the weather turns ugly.

Our website is going to be going through some updates & overhauling soon, so please keep watching for more information and additions to the calendar!

We Need Your Vote!

The Paper Forest is in the running for a $100,000 small business grant from Mission Main Street Grants, Chase and LinkedIn!  To move to the next level, we must collect at least 250 votes before June 19. Every vote counts – would you please take a moment to vote for us?  The funds from a grant like this would be absolutely an incredible help to ensure that we can continue to provide the very best products, classes and more for paper crafters all over Central Illinois and beyond!

To vote, simply visit and click on “Vote”.  You can find our voting page by searching “The Paper Forest”.  (You must have a Facebook profile to vote.)

Please cast your vote and share this link with as many crafting friends and others as possible!  The clock is running and we want to be sure to go on to the next level!  Thank you!

Designers Wanted – Join Our Team!

The Paper Forest, central Illinois’ premier scrapbook and paper crafting boutique, is looking for new design team members!

The goal of the design team is to provide inspiration for everyone in our store.  If you love creating and sharing beautiful scrapbook page layouts, cards and altered projects, keep reading!   Design team members commit to a 6 month term to complete the following projects each month:

  • 2 scrapbook pages (or a 2 page layout)
  • 1 – 2 cards
  • 1 altered project (mini album, home décor piece, jewelry item, etc.)

We provide a packet of products & supplies for each round of projects.  Each monthly project set will be due according to the schedule below.  Completed projects will always be returned to the designer after they are removed from display.

In addition to the chance to be first to work with new products and create projects for free, design team members enjoy a 20% discount on all purchases during their 6 month term! (*Cameo and Portrait machines by Silhouette excluded.)

To apply for this exciting creative opportunity, you will need to submit your application & agreement form (available here online or in the store).  Along with the form you will be asked to provide a little background about yourself & your crafting experience, special skills or other facts you think we should know about, your primary focus in crafting, areas of expertise, etc. as well as samples of your work or address where photos of your work can be viewed online (samples may also be brought in to show in person).

Click HERE for more information and a link to the application form.

Send your application information and/or questions to Mary Duitsman at .  All applications must be submitted by May 9, 2015.  We will announce the new Team May 15, 2015.

CHA MEGA Show 2015

CHA Mega Show Banner 2015

In just a few days, Melissa & I will be flying to Anaheim, California for the 2015 CHA MEGA SHOW!  This is the international conference for the craft industry, where new products are revealed, new techniques taught and all kinds of new creative possibilities explode!  We are signed up for an assortment of classes so that we can bring back new ideas and techniques to share from card making to mixed media and more.  Just how big is this “MEGA SHOW”?  Learn more about it at the CHA official website and see for yourself!

The REAL magic, though, is the vendor marketplace!  Vendors and manufacturers from all over will be showcasing new products and ideas galore!  Walking through the vendor floor is absolute sensory overload seeing all the booths overflowing with samples, project ideas and NEW products!  Some items will be ready to ship right away and many more will be pre-ordered for the coming months.  This is the place to see what the upcoming trends will be in color, style and theme. Can you imagine seeing all of the products that are not even yet available in stores?!  Don’t you wish you could be right there with us?  Well, we are going to do our best to bring you along for the adventure!

Of course we are going to take LOADS of pictures throughout the event.  To help you share the experience (and offer your own thoughts about what we’re seeing), we’ll be posting photos and notes each day right here on the website. With all the busyness and excitement, it may be late in the evening before we get our news & photos online, but you’ll want to check in daily to see what WE’RE seeing!

Now, all this talk about new product and what will be coming in as the months progress doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty in the store to offer right now!  We have new collections in stock from Authentique (an awesome St. Patrick’s themed collection), Pebbles and American Crafts, new stamps & dies from Taylored Expressions and more!  The store will be open normal hours while we’re in California so be sure to stop by and say hello to Donna, Suzanne and our two NEWEST employees, Rhonda and Laura!  We’ll even be having some help from good friends during the week, too.  Thanks for your patience while we were closed for inventory – we’re open again and eager to see everyone again!

Stay warm and we’ll be back soon with LOTS of info to share!

Better Than Black Friday

sbs2014metaAs we have the past two years, The Paper Forest Scrapbook Boutique will not be taking part in “Black Friday”.  Instead, we want to encourage shoppers to spend a little more time with family & friends, stay safe and far away from the pushing, shoving, trampling masses and do something truly good for the local economy:  Support Small Business Saturday instead!

The Black Friday madness has gotten completely out of control.  What started out as a fun family tradition for many – to spend the day after Thanksgiving Christmas shopping – has grown to the point where Thanksgiving itself feels almost like an afterthought.  The meal that we wolf down before heading to the malls.  Who has time to focus on being grateful for the blessings we have when we have to be at the front of the line for the things we WANT?

Please consider planning to do more of your shopping on Saturday, focusing on locally owned independent businesses.  These are the businesses owned & operated by your neighbors!  They offer unique goods & services with a personal touch the big box stores & super-centers can’t even come close to providing.  The dollars you spend in a local small business STAY local. They don’t go to corporations out of state (or even outside the country).  By patronizing local businesses, you keep more local jobs going strong and help keep our COMMUNITIES strong!

As a “thank you” for supporting US on Small Business Saturday, we have some great special buys, our once-a-year gift card sale, giveaways and more!  We’ll be opening one hour early for the day as well, so you can begin taking advantage of all the savings & specials at 9:00am!

Central Illinois has been rebuilding and regaining strength since the devastating tornadoes of 2013.  Show your continued support for the towns and the people who call them home with you by supporting Small Business Saturday.  So think about taking it a little easy on Friday, so you can really enjoy shopping on Saturday!  As a local resident and business owner, I can say for all of us – IT REALLY PAYS BIG TO SHOP SMALL!
